Redesign of Advertisement Essay

I feel good about going into this assignment because I found out as much research I could into it and did a lot of hard on it as well. I decide by what was different from the magazines and I found the ad that I picked interesting and that it been around for years. How I came up with my idea for the redesign is that I imaged it in mind first then I did a small sketch to see if how it would look (two different one’s a rough and final draft). Some of the challenges that I face as I began this essay is the word choice, tone, breaking it down to a different audience, and not speaking in first or second person. I overcame these challenges by simply thinking about the new audience carefully in this case women and what would a women want from the redesign product and the same came with the word choice and tone. Also with first and second person just worded it differently to make sense for the redesign. What I liked about the assignment is that we can redesigned in our own image and make sure that it appeal to our new audience and it made me think of how I would want to make a product/design it. How I used it to my advantage is by first going though it in my mind then writing it in words then making different sketches for it to choose the one that best fits it. Learning outcomes that I have walked away with is learning how to not use first or second person and how to set up my sentences. Also citing what that I have taken from secondary/outside sources. I have a greater understanding of thinking about to redesign something for a different audience and not using the first or second person voice. If I was given a second chance at this I think that I would have chosen an ad with a model in it that way it would be a little easier for the redesign to go well and word choice would be another thing I would change.

Pop Culture Positive & Negative

How it pop culture effects others (positive/ negative) or what effects it has on me?
Was it effects others in a positive way is that some people can always sort of know what their favorite celebrity is doing or what that celebrity eats or drinks. Or a favorite film that helps them remember certain scene or line from a movie an example of that would be The Terminator played by Arnold Schwarzenegger where he says “I be back”. Then there are sites like Facebook and others people use in a positive way to communicate with other people like family or someone they work with or want to work with. Some negative ways pop culture could have an effect on others are in certain magazines a lot of things are told like affairs and other negative things that could have a person think differently about that person/celebrity they like so much. Certain T.V. show can also have a negative influence on people because some people can look at person or watch a T.V. show and think if that’s how they act on T.V. that’s how they act after the show is over with examples can be like Keeping Up with the Kardashians or Honey Boo-Boo.

Literacy Timeline
·         The most logical place for me to start off my timeline was when I was born. It was hard to do both remembering detail things from my childhood to now and a lot of things I want to say but couldn’t.
·         Some things interesting I found out about my literacy development while I was composing my timeline that I never thought of is I was more into music that I thought I was and even though I wasn’t interested in book as I grew up I still read books sometimes. And that I liked technology too but didn’t get a chance to put in the timeline.
·         The theme that I notice throughout my timeline was music and art
·         I picked the topic by things about what I like doing the most and just what I found interesting to me throughout the years.
·         The experience of creating this timeline told me about myself is that I love music, art and technology (even though it not in my timeline).
Literacy Narrative
·         How I narrow down an area of focus for writing my narrative was remembering all I can about the things I focused on in my timeline and how it show me the values of these things. In the beginning it was difficult to center my ideas to a clear story but once I got an idea of how to put in all in a story it was no long a problem to word it out like I wanted.
·         When I began writing my narrative I organized it by starting off with birth, how my parents got me influenced into book. How my friend Deonte got me into art and making short stories and comics. Then how my uncles help me find music in my life by introducing his friend to me. Lastly what I am doing today and how these two things help me in the long run and if I wasn’t doing what I am today I would probably do something else regarding the two thing I focused on in my narrative. It wasn’t difficult to organize my thoughts into a rough draft.
·         I changed a lot of things after the peer review basically making sure everything was worded right, all my ideas were clear and the two narratives I was focusing on was clear to everyone. My partner was very helpful on peer reviewing my paper she gave me good constructive criticism on how and what to do for the final draft narrative.
·         I was thinking on how I was going to put it into a video just didn’t know what kinds of things I would use (pictures, music, words etc.) and how I would want to tell my story. It alter the way I would write a story by having a story ready but taking certain events from the story you have written and trying to put it into a video with detail but not too much.
Animoto Slideshow
·         Yes, in my opinion I think that my partner used 15 of the best sentences that I had. I did use all 15 of the sentences that she chose for the video.
·         Yes I did find it difficult to edit my text into 52 character limit. My strategy was to mainly break down each of the 15 sentence down to make sure it was enough to get my idea across and not too much that way the audience wasn’t to confused or didn’t know what my narrative was.
·         The way I used the images in my video was by having the images I chose to complimentary to my text slides (i.e.  A picture of my favorite book, my parents, art, etc.).
·         I chose the images I chose to help those who watched my video better understand where I was going to focus on. It was a mix of both personal images and web images. They help me tell my story by helping giving a clear idea on what type of things was going to be included and to give people who watched my video a look at different image regarding my narratives.
·         The song helps me help cement a theme in my slideshow by using a beat (music) and choosing a good theme to go with to make the video make sense to what I was going for when it comes to my narratives. I chose the song because I thought that it was interesting to me and would help people understand the one of my two narratives (music and art) that I had and I like the music a lot.
·         Something’s I wish I did differently would be that I had a chance to fit in more about art and try to add my liking of technology somewhere in there. Another thing that I would have changed or done differently was probably the music of my video because there were a lot of choices I could have chose from. And I would have used more personal images for my video rather that a mix of both or web images and explain more about what a beat is.

Digital Literacy: How Would You Teach It?

Writing 150 Free Write 1/30/13
2) From Virginia Heffernen
1. The way my teachers in elementary, middle and high school could have better prepared you for the tech requirements in college was  give us detail or ideas on what kinds of tech we would be using or have someone that is an expert who specialist in the tech and show us.
2. The kind of technology I anticipate having to use in my chosen career field is different program things and working with electronic circuits. Do I think my schooling here at Oakland will prepare me for that and many other things in my field in the future.
3. Yes I do feel better writing in a more relaxed setting because there are no distractions around to get me off track. Another reason why I like it is that there is no pressure and I can go off my mind and just write however I feel rather happy, sad, good or bad. Because not everyone can just go to a different place with a lot of noise and just write what on the top of their heads and just write about anything rather it’s a paper (rough or  final draft) for a specify class or just writing to express themselves. I also wouldn’t be over thinking anything I can just be myself and be calm to write rather a blog, song, poem, etc. it’s just a good thing to be good in the environment with just yourself and maybe some music to get ideas going to better yourself with anything regarding writing projects. Another reason I like writing in a relaxing setting because it’s in general a relaxing place no one wants to be in a busy environment to think and write if a person is more relaxed in a setting that fits them then a lot can be accomplished with anything dealing with homework or other things and rather it’s myself or someone else no one wants to be stress out, yell at, or pressure to meet a word and page requirement but not caring how much they write or how long it is.
4. If I was a science teacher I would attempt to have different scientist come in and help with projects and give detail on how to do certain thing that way my students don't mess up. Also give detail on what they do as their profession.
 5. I do agree  with the main thesis of education needs a digital upgrade because in school nowadays certain student will be doing work that hasn't been invented yet and it would be better if teachers at least gave example on what the students want to get into in the future. Also try having someone come in that specialists in something that people would be working on where the students can see hands on.
